Painted through and after the Yugoslav wars, from a studio increasingly split between Paris and a summer retreat near Mount Athos. The late works — ghost ships, time tombs, the death of a singer — read as self-portraiture by other means. "In the past, I would get rid of my torments by placing them on canvas. Today, I am looking for a refuge in my paintings, peace for the soul."
